Jean Pujol
Jean has always been obsessed with the process of bringing into matter. He is constantly building and shaping objects, exploring mechanical concepts that result in beautiful lines and efficient designs. He is a keen observer of proportion and movement in space. His goal is to improve our interaction with space and objects to create fluidity and connection.
He studied design at École de Condé in Paris after when he designed custom furniture and spaces. In 2015, he founded Rue Intérieure.
Finding inspiration in architecture, he admires the work of Mies van der Rohe, Peter Zumthor, Manuel Cervantes. The power of the Yves Klein blue color changed his understanding of the relationship between shape and the perception of shape. With Gerhard Richter’s paintings, he discovered the surrealistic aspect of reality. Music also deeply influences his designs from the divine sound of the organ in Bach Toccata to the saxophone of Colin Stetson.
Jean was born in New Caledonia and grew up in the south of France. He lives in Montreal with his wife Darine and their kids, Selva and Maël.
Rue Intérieure studio
Rue intérieure is a Montreal design studio created in 2015 by Franco-Canadian Jean Pujol.
Proportion and harmony are at the heart of the studio’s creations. Details are rigorously thought to bring dynamic and powerful new shapes and lines. Beauty and movement made by the interaction between space, object and the individual drive the studio’s vision. The result is refined and interesting pieces balancing a rich aesthetic with a comfortable and generous functionality. Working with curved metals, rich leathers and solid marbles, Jean designs chairs, tables and objects that focus and generate energy.
