STUDIO MANO is the work of Bruno Nakano, a Japanese-Brazilian ceramicist based in California but originally from São Paulo.
Mano is the short for hermano which means brother in Spanish, and that’s what Bruno’s little brother used to call him when they’re kids.
Since then, his entire family has continued to call him mano.
In addition, mano also means hand in Spanish.
Bruno operates mostly with stoneware and terracotta, utilizing slow hand-building techniques and simple tools, creating singular pieces or small collections of both functional and sculptural figurative artifacts with the intent to simply bring happiness and joy during your day.
Besides his ceramic and artistic work, Bruno also works as a designer and art director, having lived in places such as São Paulo, Mexico, Madrid, Sydney, NY and California, winning awards such as Top 10 Art Directors and Design Gold at Cannes, Green Pencil at the One Show, Top 10 Package Designs of the Decade at the Dieline, 200 Best Illustrators Worldwide by the Lürzer's Archive amongst many others.
