Marking the 28th anniversary this year, Johyun Gallery opened its space in Gwangalli, Busan, under the name Gallery World in 1989. In 2005, the gallery reestablished itself at a new exhibition space in Dalmagi Hill near Haeundae Beach with a beautiful panoramic view into an art hub. Along with the opening of another space in Pyeongchang dong, Seoul, in 2007, it aims to take a role as a leading instrument to introduce and exhibit diverse works of art.
Beginning by exhibiting representative artists of Dansaekhwa such as Park Seo Bo, Chung Chang Sup and Yun Hyong Keun, who leading pioneers of Korean Modernism, Johyun Gallery has been organizing exhibitions that reflect critical moments in the course of Korean modern art history. The gallery also has been continuously showcasing Jesus Rafael Soto and Jean Pierre Raynaud. In the recent years, the gallery has introduced artists such as Philippe Cognee, Thierry Feuz, Peter Zimmermann and Georges Rousse, who have active careers around the globe, and presented their first solo exhibitions in Korea, receiving significant reviews from the national and international art world.
Johyun Gallery will continue to explore and curate exhibitions not only the masters from in and out of Korea but also of talented young artists, seeking to present today’s Korean contemporary art in the global art world.
