Lot 53: Painted Sculpture Series-Merriment

Info

Liu Jianhua's porcelain sculptures of headless and armless women, made in Jingdezhen, the ceramic capital of China, were originally conceived as a challenge to the viewer's imagination, their daintiness and fragility meant to provoke dialogue about culture and history. With Painted Sculpture Series-Merriment, Liu employs the anonymous female figures for which he has become known to create a work that is a conversation with social history and the artistic formalism.
