Lot 62: Sea of Lotus, Air of Elegance

Info

Known for his exploration of optical illusions and museum culture, Tu Wei-Cheng uses real and created artefacts to question the boundaries between the authentic and the counterfeit. Muc like Tu's other works at the Collecting Europe exhibition at the V&A, London, Sea of Lotus, Air of Elegance takes the traditional representation of a lotus-symbolising the perserverance of goodness and purity within a banal environment-and turns it into a witty commentary on the cultural value of contemporary objects.
