Exploring the relationship between objects and remembering, my work touches on the emotional aspect of reminiscing loss memories. Objects serves as important stimuli in nostalgia as it can trigger the recollection of an event, evoking pleasant or unpleasant emotions depending on an individual’s experiences. There is a certain amount of sadness in the emotion that is experienced, but there is also a sense of happiness when associating with a memory from the past.
Suram (bleak), is a series of work which consists of imprints from past objects and belongings to suggest the absence and the bleakness of childhood memories. Blue and brown hues are used to create a sense of sombreness while thread and embossed fragments with subtle pastel hues convey traces of long lost remembrances. Through the technique and process of etching, it creates a literal connotation to how memories are being ‘etched’ in our heads.
