The works mainly explore around two themes; Abstract Expressionism and a street dance style known as ‘popping’. Popping is the art of contracting and relaxing of the different parts of muscles to the rhythm or sound of the music through a series of poses and movements. One of my main objectives of my practice is to present popping as the main subject and promote it as an expressive aesthetic form instead of a dance form. Using the types of movements and the music used in the popping culture, my concept is to convey the emotions and expressions of a popper during the performance be it happy or sad. Like Jackson Pollock, the emphasis of my practice is towards the process of creation instead of the final outcome. With the idea of action painting and gestural mark making, the series of works and performance highlight popping as both the subject and the medium.
