Hanabi originated from another project we work on called 共KYO. The objective of the 共KYO project is to reinterpret traditional Japanese craft trough creative collaborations between Japanese craft makers and Singapore designers. Thru the project, we met and collaborated with a group of dedicated Japanese craft makers from the Kanto region. We got to know each other thru the process and became good friends.
In the summer of 2017, we were invited by one of the craft maker, Satoshi Hara (a renowned bronze artisan) and his wife Yoshiko to visit their hometown of Kashiwazaki to experience life there and celebrate the Hanabi fireworks festival together. We experienced the beauty of Kashiwazaki as well as the warm hospitality and sincere friendship of Hara San and his family.
It was the best summer of our lives.
It inspired us to start the Hanabi project, with a simple and sincere idea.
To share (what we have experienced and feel) are the good things in life. The things we love and cherish, it can be beautiful memories, stories, places, conversations, art, craft, food, drinks, music, books and friendships.
This is a personally meaningful project to share it with you, our dear friends.
