Founded in Istanbul in 1998, gallery program focused on visibility of female artists. By the time gallery moved to Tophane area in istanbul in 2008, It had established itself as institutional like space, as well known for community projects such as education, publishing and public programming. “A programme to initiate social change...”
With the London move in 2013, Pi Artworks wanted to cross borders, make connections, explore “shared histories”, bridge artists from two different geographies working on similar issues. Open up to global conversations about art history, political and critical thinking By 2015, Pi Artworks roster was much more shifted towards political content, identity, displacement still mainly female, additional focus on “intergenerational conversation” to create its own eco-sytem which is much needed to nurture younger generations.
