Pi Artworks Istanbul/London was founded in 1998 by Yeşim Turanlı at a time when the commercial art market in Turkey was non-existent and there was little institutional support for visual artists. Upon our founding, we became the primary motivational force fostering the contemporary art market that now thrives in Istanbul and we have remained at the forefront of the Turkish art scene ever since. Since 2011 we have been based in the historic Mısır Apartmanı, Galatasaray and have regularly had the primary booths at the city’s two major art fairs. Never happy to be static, Pi Artworks became the first Turkish gallery to open a venue in London.
Pi Artworks currently represents twenty artists from across Europe, Asia, Africa and the Americas. This roster includes establish practitioners such as Susan Hefuna, whose work we have placed in important permanent collections such as those of the Pompidou Centre, Paris; Solomon. R. Guggenheim Museum, New York; and the British Museum, London and Tayeba Begum Lipi who previously represented Bangladesh at the 54th Venice Biennale. Alongside these names are noteworthy Turkish artists such as Mehmet Ali Uysal, Yesim Akdeniz, Volkan Aslan, and Gülay Semercioğlu, who have exhibited extensively in their home country and received their first international solo exhibitions and have been placed into International Institutions collections through the gallery.
