TONYRAKA Art Gallery organized its first exhibition on 2003. Within a period of ten years, TONYRAKA has held more than 30 fine art exhibitions featuring paintings, sculpture, installation, photography, and various other visual arts. TONYRAKA is always involved in curating to maintain the quality of the works featured in solo and mutual exhibitions as well as daily presentations.
During those years, TONYRAKA has gained great trust from both national and international artists in presenting their work to arts society. TONYRAKA has become the presentation space of the work of Indonesia's leading artists such as Mangu Putra, Nyoman Erawan, FX Harsono, Tisna Sanjaya and Yani Mariani Sastranegara; internationally-distinguished artist such as Wolfgang Widmoser, Ronald Wigman, Peter Dittmar, Filippo Sciascia and Samarpan; as well as brilliant young artists such as Ida Bagus Purwa, Ketut Teja Astawa, Made Arya Palguna, Sudarna Putra and Nyoman Wijaya. By the broad support from the arts society, TONYRAKA currently has grown into a gallery which has a commendable reputation in Bali.
Each of TONYRAKA’s activities are a statement of cultural mission, artistic vision and TONYRAKA’s aesthetic standards as an institution which is involved in promoting arts and culture. Fine art exhibitions and other cultural agendas are not merely presenting the creative achievements of individual artists, but also reflecting the commitment which is deeply held and fought by TONYRAKA. Since the beginning, TONYRAKA have been committed to actively urge and contribute to the dynamics of cultural development, particularly in the field of fine arts.
Such commitment is carried out continuously through exhibitions, seminars, cooperation projects and various other cultural arts activities. As an example, in 2005, TONYRAKA held a great exhibition “Erotica” presenting the works of Indonesian and International artists in response to the Pornography Act Draft which was feared would grind cultural diversity and deprive creative freedom. Moreover, in 2007 a great exhibition “Ar[t]chipelago Alert” in conjunction with a social action, TONYRAKA conveyed the aspirations of Indonesian artists on the issue of global warming which was being discussed at the UN International Conference in Bali at that time. A couple of years ago, TONYRAKA also participated in exhibitions exchange and cultural pilgrimage programs between Ginseng Country artists and Indonesian artists that took place in Bali and Jeju, South Korea. Furthermore, TONYRAKA also actively cooperated with foreign parties in promoting Indonesian art works overseas. For instance, TONYRAKA held a fine arts exhibition in Daegu, South Korea last year.
Since its establishment more then ten years ago, Tony constantly improves itself as a professional, dignified and trustworthy agent in bridging idealism and pragmatism, creativity and markets, artwork and appreciator, artists and community. Throughout those years, support, trust and recognition of the arts society and public have raised TONYRAKA to become a valuable asset to move forward.
