Scott Woodward Meyers

Born: 1959

Hometown: Seattle

Based in: Los Angeles

Scott Woodward Meyers is an abstract painter and photographer. While his large format minimal acrylic canvases evoke spaces and enigmatic intervals of time, his photographic fragments, arranged into series, like visual haiku, describe momentary natural and urban impressions. 'I would like to convey my fascination in the balance of all types of relationships and processes as well as engage the viewer in questioning cultural views, rituals and frameworks.'

Meyers' work has often been acquired in series or commissioned, it is represented in corporate collections in Europe and private collections worldwide. In 2016 he returned to the USA and is currently working from Los Angeles and Hawaii.

Scott Woodward Meyers (American, b. 1959) studied photography and printmaking at the University of Washington, School of Art In Seattle. After university, he began travelling internationally, including the South Pacific, Middle East and eventually settling in Europe. He has lived and worked in Switzerland most of this professional life.

More About Scott Woodward Meyers

IconInspires

What inspires you?

I view my minimal painting and abstract photography as a continuing collection of transformative moments, revealing something seemingly ordinary in a new way, like visual haiku.

IconCreative

Describe your creative process.

The body of my work revolves around relationships between contrasts, apparent opposites and dualites. I am fascinated by natural and man-made processes, changing landscapes, urban environments and cultural diversity. Interdisciplinary exchange, questioning the status quo and envisioning where we are going are central to my understanding of artistic expression. Works often do not convey a single holistic sense immediately, but allow contemplation and the opportunity to see more deeply as an alternative.
