Artist Profile

Born: 1983

Hometown: Amsterdam

Based in: Amsterdam

Since earning a Summa Cum Laude degree in Fine Art Photography from De Fotoacademie Amsterdam in 2005, I have been working as a freelance creative in Amsterdam, The Netherlands

As a photographer I am interested in capturing everything that has anything to do with the human condition. I specialize in portraits, but also love working with writers and performers to create album and book covers.
As well as doing work for big (McCann Nederland) and small advertising agencies (Goosebumps UK), magazines (Das Mag) and publishers (De Bezige Bij, Atlas Contact, Meulenhoff) as a freelance photographer and art director, I have created multiple Fine Art Photography projects and continue to do so.

I have started abstract painting in earnest in 2015 and am self-taught.

In my paintings I usually draw on experiences that are universal to all people, but feel unique when they happen to us like deja-vu or heartbreak.

All my work is about things we cannot see but we know are there. Previous series titles include ‘Kismet’ and ‘Mind Games’. I like to keep a sense of mystery in my work, like the viewer is looking at a secret.

I work in multiple mediums and usually on multiple series at the same time. I try not to be too analytical about my style. I know, conceptually, what I want to get across, but the act of painting itself is very much an intuitive one for me. I try not to over-intellectualize or over-think. In a sense, my work comes from the body, not the mind.

My work has been featured by the SFMoMa on their social media channels, and has been on show at House Of Lucie in L.A. Most work has been acquired by private collectors.
