Artist Statement
I've been watching the progress of this fern in particular because of the slightly odd nodules it displays prior to completely unfurling. All the other ferns in our garden don't have these little lighter 'bumps'. There was masses of new growth on this particular plant, so I was able to take 4 stems to photograph without making any material difference to how the fern will look over the rest of the year. With more than a nod towards the work of Karl Blossfeldt, the absolute master of botanical photography, I arranged the fronds in a family style group and worked through all of the variations I could think of.
