Andrii Katrych

Born: 1986

Hometown: Nadvirna

Based in: Kyiv

Geometry is my style. It’s when there’s nothing out of place. It’s when the patterns of the paintings themselves bring out the Essence of it. It’s about the forms, centuries-proven and energy-laden by the Universe.

My story is a story about a struggle, a struggle between a sensibility and a razor-sharp attention of engineer.

I come from a small Ukrainian town in the Carpathian mountains. By all the rules of the genre I had one choice to make - to become a worker in an oil extraction industry (as most of my peers did). And that was exactly what I did - I went there and worked for some time until one episode with my friend. She asked me to draw the Indian Sri Yantra and that task was so exciting that kept me up all night. Probably, that became a life changing moment for me. I put away all the fears and left the mountain town for the capital.

I gave up the oil industry for the theatre, and then moved on to working in the Ukrainian media.

Since 2014 I’ve been creating paintings on requests.

The clients recognise the value of my pieces for the forms which bear a profound earthborn/cosmic energy. It’s when there’s nothing out of place. It’s when there’s just the form, the deep meaning and the energy.

The technique. It’s when there’s just me, the music, the drawing canvas, the pencil, the compasses, the ruler and the acrylic paint. There’s no place for stencils or templates. Everything is done by hand, with geometrical accuracy, masterly and calibrated to the greatest possible extent.
