Ceramics is my passion. I first started to explore this handcraft more than fifteen years ago. By now, it has become a lifestyle. Allow me to briefly explain why.
Today, I live in Antwerp (Belgium) after twenty years of traveling and living in several places around the world. From Abu Dhabi to Shanghai, from Sydney and Melbourne to Tokyo. Traveling changed my perception of things, of people, and of what is happening in the world. Without exception, all the places I temporarily called my home, with their unique cultures and particular customs, influenced me as a person, as well as they did my work.
All my creations are 100% hand built, exclusively by my two hands. I prefer a simple, yet refined and slow-making process, and I only use natural materials. The final shape and organic look of my pieces only reveals itself after two firings. All my ceramics are unique, each object has its distinct characteristics. The end result sort of reflects memories of the creation process, narrating about every touch and each manipulation.
While I work, I let the clay speak to me. My designs emerge from an intuitive place, an inner knowing. But also, the natural elements I work with and the delicate firing process both deserve credit for the end result. I cannot completely control the clay, nor the firing, and I’m totally fine with that ‘risk’ of imperfection. It’s the natural and highly fluid transition that inspires and intrigues me. Much more than I’d ever seek to achieve perfection.
