I am Aparna Chakravarty, and I am an artist based in Singapore.
My formal education is in graphic design and illustration. I have worked within the e-commerce, web design and digital art space across India and Singapore. Painting brings me immense joy and happiness. Nature, colours, textures and juxtaposition of these inspire me and they will reflect abundantly in my creations.
I like experimenting with various mediums and tools. Learning and experimenting is a constant with me and I keep expanding my boundaries as an artist through various courses.
What inspires you?
Nature, textures and colours in nature inspire me the most. memories from my childhood, my experiences in life inspire me. all the inspiration that i need is all around me.
Describe your creative process.
For abstract paintings, i have a spontaneous approach. I paint with colours that I connect with on a particular day. I use various painting tools, cake icing scraper being a favourite. I play around gesso to create textures before I put in the colours. The way the colours are put on the canvas, the technique and the style, are dependent on my feelings on a given day. It's all about exploring and experimenting. For realistic paintings, I draw them first on the canvas and colour and technique usage is well thought out and deliberate.
What are 3 words that best describe your work?
Colourful, textural, detailed.
Who are some artists that have influenced your work?
A.Ramachandran, S.H.Raza, M.F.Hussain, Amrita Shergill, Anjolie Ela Menon, Gustav Klimt, Van Gogh, Piet Mondrian, Jackson Pollock. There are so many artists who I have been in awe of and who have constantly inspired me.
