Catia Goffinet is a multidisciplinary Brazilian artist who explores intriguing scientific concepts, such as the universe, cosmos, cosmic energies, and our connection to the whole. Her art, rooted in geometric and abstract forms, invites introspection, bringing distant themes closer to our everyday lives. Each of her works serves as a gateway to reflection, suggesting the presence of something hidden to be discovered in our surroundings and within ourselves.
Using straight lines, precise colors, and shapes, Catia breathes life into her creations while maintaining her authentic style as she explores different artistic approaches. Her pieces transport viewers to a vibrant world where expressive colors and geometries inspire a deeper appreciation of harmonious patterns and textures. Her meticulous work challenges apparent simplicity, skillfully uniting science and art to create a new universe, transforming the invisible into expressive and flawless forms.
Born in São Paulo in 1973, Catia now resides in the Serra da Cantareira, surrounded by nature, where her studio is located. There, she connects with nature and her meditation practice, fueling her curiosity about the unseen. With an artistic journey that began early, teaching children at the age of 14 and exploring painting since 16, Catia decided to dedicate herself exclusively to art in 2013. Her work has been showcased in various exhibitions in São Paulo, Uruguay, Portugal, as well as art fairs in New York and Los Angeles.
Artist's Statement
In my artistic work, I conduct a profound investigation into the intricate relationship between mathematics and geometry as fundamental languages of the universe, seeking to harmonize rational and irrational elements, physical and metaphysical. I use geometric forms to weave a visual narrative that not only captures concepts of physics and mathematics but also encapsulates the depth of human emotions, reflecting the cosmic order and harmony that exist beyond our visual reach. This approach not only challenges the boundaries of artistic expression but also serves as an introspective invitation for the viewer to contemplate the mysteries and beauty of human existence, offering a meditative refuge from the hustle of modern technological life. Thus, my work transcends the visual dimension, proposing a deep reflection on our role in the vast scheme of the cosmos and celebrating mathematics as the sublime essence of the universe.

What inspires you?
The search for a new way of looking at straight lines inspires me. The possibility of creating beyond the obvious with lines and shapes is my goal. From the simplicity of pure forms to the complexity of what is possible to look at from a new angle.
Describe your creative process.
My creative process ranges from scientific themes, quantum physics, forms of the solar system to internal issues of who we are and where we are. I believe that we are energy and I like to paint that energy. I like deep internal issues but I do not disregard the simplicity of pure lines and simple shapes such as the combination of colors that I find in my garden.
What are 3 words that best describe your work?
Energy, Lines, Colors
Who are some artists that have influenced your work?
When I started painting I was inspired by Vasarely. I think it's amazing what he can do with simple lines. It looked like magic. Frank Stella is also one of my great references.
What is the most important tool when creating your work?
Be light. Feel free. Detachment. Creating for the sheer pleasure of creating is my main work tool.
What is the best piece of advice you have been given?
"I don't know anything with certainty, but seeing the stars makes me dream." Van Gogh
Where do you go for inspiration?
Everything has its time. And time is my biggest inspiration
