Artist Name

Choi Byung-so

Born: 1943

Hometown: Korea

Based in: Korea

Byung-So Choi has been active as a key person at the Korean Art scene as an igniter of the contemporary Korean art movement of the 1970s, having a significant place in Korean monochrome painting history. The artist has introduced his own intrinsic methodology through ‘drawing and deleting’ as a repetitive, self-discipline like act, using everyday materials such as newspaper, ballpoint pens, and pencils. The artist embarked on executing this methodology without a large studio or huge expense, consistently exploring the direction of his work suitable for his aptitude and preference. Quiet, but always working fiercely. Choi is considered an artist who displays an authenticity that art today itself must question.
