Coralie Huon is a multidisciplinary artist and illustrator who takes inspiration from nature and landscapes. French artist based in the Alps, she uses her own adventures to fuel her inspiration.
Focusing on our connection with nature and - through this - our relationship with ourselves, Coralie uses landscapes as metaphors to express emotional and spiritual journeys. She highlights the beauty of the outdoor world and the interaction of people with these places and themselves.
Her illustrative creations are invitations to reflect on how we relate to the powerful forces of our planet and renew our connection with nature. In essence, her works manifest the desire to find life’s deeper meaning through the wonders of the world. Coralie’s style is highly intricate and blends high precision with layered, geometric forms. The viewer is led on a journey through contrasting colours and graphic shapes, navigating a new space between her mixed-media paintings and the inner experience they elicit.
Time in the studio is a meditative experience, a way to daydream and escape in the landscapes I am drawing or painting. Through my art practice, I re-experience the calm and peace of the outdoors and channel these feelings in my creations.
What inspires you?
Landscapes and people exploring landscapes is my main inspiration, in particular dramatic landscapes like mountains and rock formations. I use these motifs both to explore the beauty of nature and use then as metaphors to express the complexity of the human experience.
Describe your creative process.
I work mainly from pictures. That are the initial trigger of my inspiration, then I follow my instinct when it comes to colour and composition.
What are 3 words that best describe your work?
Graphical, illustrative, nature inspired.
Who are some artists that have influenced your work?
Jeremy Collins, Salvador Dali
What is the most important tool when creating your work?
Either silence or really good music or podcast, it helps me get deep in the creative zone.
What is the best piece of advice you have been given?
"Just start now and show up everyday". The power of habit and just working with consistency, step by step, and see the artist career as an ever evolving journey rather then somewhere to arrive to.
Where do you go for inspiration?
My inspiration comes from my adventures & form fellow adventurers. I take pictures when I am out climbing or in the mountains or get inspired by other people photograph. I also like to explore gallery and museums and soak into other artists process and visions.
