Danny Esquenazi
Born: 1975
Hometown: bogota
Based in: Bogota
Danny Esquenazi was born in 1975 in Bogotá ,Colombia.
In 1994 he moved to Jerusalem, Israel where he first served in the Israeli Military and then continued to study. He started out as an architecture student at the Bezalel academy and continued to learn Industrial Design at the Hadassah Collage and to graduate with distinction.
His professional career began in design studios in Tel Aviv where he mainly worked in plastics. He eventually left Israel and traveled the world for a few years, visiting museums and galleries, immersing himself in the local art scenes, taking classes on the go in art and design and gaining the all essential life experience. Today he is a successful independent designer and artist working inBogotá, Colombia.
Due to his history and travels Danny's work and vision are unique in that they are completely independent of the cultural and social conventions which tend to steer artistic trends. In his workshop in Bogotá he has been engrossed in exploring materials and inventing a technique and a language all of his own.
At first glance it is impossible to guess what his sculptures are made of. The initial impact is created by the fantastic finish in an amazing spectrum of acrylic colors. Then on deeper examination one discovers that the sculptures are mainly constructed in hardwood, veneer and MDF which has been taken on a journey out of context and into a new wonderland of shapes, kinetics and colors. Danny's sculptures are monumental in size and poetic in essence and it is this juxtaposition which really creates his funky visual conversation with his audience.
We don't have any works from this artist at the moment.

What inspires you?
basically living, I can find interesting sources everywhere, but what motivates me more is when collectors smile after hanging a new piece.
Describe your creative process.
It starts at night before getting to sleep, I got the ideas, the very next day I put them down on paper or if necessary, make a small model, after some computer and final mockup. After that production. I never make a piece without testing the whole process. Many times I have to go out and find the materials that suit the new creation, my workshop is full of material from different worlds but the essence is Wood, I work with everything that has a relation with the wood world.
