Derek Lerner is an American contemporary artist currently living and working in NYC whose work explores systems: their creation, control, use and experience of them. Lerner is primarily known for his ink on paper abstract drawings. His art has been exhibited worldwide and in 2015 the MTA commissioned Lerner to create permanent public art for the entire Avenue X subway station in Brooklyn. The New York Foundation for the Arts awarded Lerner a fellowship for drawing in 2020.

Infrastructures, global warming and climate change, identity, crime, consumerism, misinformation, semantics, sociology, pollution, overpopulation, war, pandemics- these are some of the topics that drive my thinking and production of my work.
