Elaine Truong is an emerging self-taught artist best known for her ethereal and highly dynamic compositions in her sculptures and paintings. Whether her substrate is canvas, paper, marble, or ceramic stoneware, her pieces celebrate the elegant beauty and organic flow of abstract forms. Elaine has been painting and sculpting since a young age in Los Angeles, where she grew up, but recently revisited her art practice by creating over 40 commissions for private clients. For her unique bas relief sculptures, she uses a variety of surgical scalpels to carve and sculpt thick watercolor paper. She is inspired by nature, organic shapes, and the intersection of mathematical patterns, materials science, and art. She is passionate about female empowerment, building community, and using art for healing. Elaine has lived in San Francisco, Los Angeles, and Singapore. She currently resides in New York City.
What inspires you?
The intersection of multiple disciplines inspires me. The mathematical forms, golden ratio, Fibonacci sequences found in nature, and the intricacies of the world around us at the macro and nanoscale is incredible to me. Beauty also inspires me. It is one of the many aspects that give life meaning.
Describe your creative process.
I start with an anchor point, which could be an image, memory, or emotion that I want to convey. I then sketch it out and envision how I want to convey that emotion into my work. Then I start experimenting and building and creating until I'm satisfied with the finished piece.
What are 3 words that best describe your work?

My hands
Where do you go for inspiration?
I take inspiration from the ocean, nature, and biomorphic forms. I am also curious and fascinated by science and the abstract theories in mathematics. I also am inspired by many other artists, so I love visiting galleries in NYC, Paris, and Singapore.
