Hometown: Singapore
Based in: Singapore
Ezzam Rahman (b. 1981, Singapore) is a multi-disciplinary artist based in Singapore. He graduated with a BA (Hons) in Fine Arts from University of Huddersfield, UK in 2010 and was
formally trained as a sculptor in LASALLE SIA College of the Arts, Singapore. He is currently earning his MA in Fine Arts from Goldsmiths, University of London, UK at LASALLE.
Ezzam works with a variety of medium, employing sculpture, installation and performance art to construct glimpses into basic human emotions and question our own making of the world. He considers his works as improvisational objects – time-based ephemeras that invite the viewers to question the value and worth of impermanence. Relying on instinctual desires for beauty, abject poetics and seduction, Ezzam constructs unconventional visual experiences from singular materials and the presence of his breathing body.
Ezzam works have been showcased in numerous local and international group exhibitions, events and festivals. He has presented his works in Australia, Cambodia, China, Cyprus, Denmark, France, Germany, Greece, Indonesia, Italy, Japan, Macau, Malaysia, Philippines, South Korea, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden, Taiwan, Thailand and U.K. His most recent series of skin sculptures was commissioned by the Singapore Art Museum and showcased in an exhibition entitled Unearthed in 2014. He presented an installation art-cum-performance artwork at SingaPlural, an anchor event for the Singapore Design Week 2015. In the same year, Ezzam was awarded the Grand Prize for the President's Young Talents 2015 and People's Choice Award by the Singapore Art Museum.
