Gabomi

Gabomi is a contemporary photographer. She was born in 1978 in Kochi, and now lives in Kagawa, Japan. In 2008, she started her photography practice, and in 2012, she published her book "KOTODEN" (AKAAKA) in Japan.

"10 years ago, I was not interested in photography at all. I was just an assistant of a publishing company. We issued a local coupon magazine monthly with many advertisements for the clients. They requested a lot of beautiful photos. We had many contracted photographers but sometimes none of them could accept our job offer. One day, we failed to book the professional photographer and I had to take some photos instead of him. My boss simply explained how to use a camera to me. I went to the client's restaurant and took food pictures by myself. It was an easy shooting, but very hard for me. Three hours after, I finally got a nice shot and felt extreme elation. I found something unexpected, my calling. Then, I quit the company. And that is why I started photography."
