Gerald Mak is a Hong Kong born artist based in London. Working predominantly with clay, he creates unique objects, tile panels, sculptures with his carvings of hands and gestures. It began with a fascination of what the hand represents in its manifold, signifier of labour or signs of communication. It becomes potent for Gerald as a maker having a hands-on relationship with clay. He often sees these hand motifs as self portraits to a degree, expressions of his very own drawn from habits and things important to him.
