Guang-Yu Zhang is currently based in Shanghai, China. In 2012, he received his BFA from Central Saint Martins in London.
In the very earlier stage of his career, Saatchi Art firstly recognised Guangyu as one of their notable artists and featured him in ‘One to Watch’ list. They also selected him as one of the ‘best of 2014’, ’best of 2017’ and the international emerging artists for the exhibition ‘Continental Shift’ at the Saatchi Gallery, his works was selected for the exhibition ‘Source Collage’ at the Tate Britain in 2014.
In 2017, he was invited for 10th Asian Young Artists Art Festival at the DDP in Seoul. WGSN has selected Guangyu’s works as the 2018 SS fashion colour guidance for the great China region. The same year, Hennessy Maison invited Guangyu for a globe collaboration, he created a masterpiece for the limited edition VSOP bottle.
In 2020, Carlsberg Group invited Guangyu for an art collaboration - the works have been created with the hope of a smooth recovery for the world in 2021 in mind. The project ‘2021 spring back to life’, captures hopes of vibrant rejuvenation on the new year. In the while, his second collaboration project with Hennessy Paradis has been also launched at the Beijing Moutai Museum in the Q3 2021.
Guangyu's solo exhibition opened at the CAMP Gallery in Miami in 2021 as well. Artnet News features his work on the exhibition — “Guang-Yu Zhang’s works are saturated and densely layered portals that teeter between kaleidoscopic abstractions and surreal landscapes. His varying use of canvas shapes, photographic manipulation, and shadow boxes further enhance the works’ magical quality. He does not shy away from mixing traditional Chinese elements with the flashy sensibilities of Pop.”
