Born in 1958, Liwei Hu, art name 谷池 (Guchi), is a member of the Calligrapher Association of China and the Artist Association of Canton. He has been dedicated to the practice of traditional Chinese painting (Guohua) and calligraphy for over fifty years.
In his 20s, he honed his skills under the guidance of the famous Chinese painter Liang Chubang (梁楚邦) and the esteemed calligrapher Cui Tingyao (崔廷瑶). Guchi completed his master’s program at The Guangzhou Academy of Fine Arts in 1992. In 2012, he was mentored by one of China’s most prestigious painters, Fan Yang (范扬).
Inspired by numerous traditional art masters, Guchi has gradually developed a unique style in both painting and calligraphy. His works have been collected and exhibited by the National Art Exhibition of China.
Guchi's studio is situated in the quaint and picturesque city of Huizhou in southern China, surrounded by lakes and mountains.
