Based in: Philippines
Guenivere Decena b. 1986
Guenivere Decena is a contemporary artist focusing on interconnectedness; often incorporating music, installation, small scale sculptures and painting. She is an organizing member of Art Satellite; an artist initiative which creates local and international programs, exhibitions and activities in and around Negros. As a part of this initiative, she conducts interviews under AIID (Artist Initiated Interviews and Discussions) to help widen and deepen the understanding of an artist’s significance in society.
Guen’s solo exhibitions include “Constant Point of Vanishing” in Orange Gallery, Bacolod (2011), “Suspend the World” in Francaise de Manille, Makati (2012), “Fragile” in HOM Art Trans, Kuala Lumpur (2014), “Take Cover” in Rebels for Life Galerie, Seone Switzerland (2015). She received residency grants in and outside the country: NEAR (Neo Emerging Artist Residency) of Project Space Pilipinas in Manila (2011), SAGE (Southeast Asia Artist Group Exchange) in Malaysia and Jogjakarta, Indonesia (2013), PSP Lucban (2014), and an artist residency grant from IILM School of Design in New Delhi, India (2015).
Currently, the artist is looking into more community-driven collaborations outside the gallery; bridging the concepts of the artist as an exhibiting creator and a living contributing member of the socially- chained spectra of living.
Guenivere Decena graduated Cum Laude of Fine Arts Major in Advertising in La Consolacion College, Bacolod last 2009, and is a civil service awardee. She was part of the curatorial team of ViVa ExCon 2020 representing Negros Occidental.
