Hazel Thomson

Born: 1966

Hometown: chester

Based in: chester

My painting style has developed over the years, mostly through experiments with oils.
I paint with a palette knife and brush, and my work has three narratives: realism, contemporary and impressionistic. Look at my work closely and you will understand why it is all three styles.

I would describe my process of painting as almost sculptural, as I purposely add thick layers of paint and marks with a pallet knife, then take away or add more paint over these marks when dry, as the scene starts to take shape.
This gives my work a textural and realist look and feel, so the viewer can be lost momentarily within the painting.

I have studied for years observing our environment through my passion for trees, from the smallest detail, of an acorn right up to a complete forest changing over the years.
This gives me an intuitive instinct on how to paint trees in all their beauty and the Spirit of life they bring to the natural world.

I am passionate and conscious that my main aim in showing my work is to send out a message of not only the beauty of trees, but in all our environment in the world we need to respect nature for the future stability of the climate of our world.
