Artist Name

Hui Hoi-kiu, Angel

Born: 1990

Hometown: Hong Kong

Based in: Hong Kong

Hui is a contemporary ink painter based in Hong Kong. She received her BA in Visual Arts from the Hong Kong Baptist University in 2014 and the Master of Art program in Experimental Art at the Central Academy of Fine Arts in 2017. She is particularly interested in reinvestigating the value of existing, found objects. Her works exhume meanings of daily, mundane materials, such as facial tissue and rice paper, and sometimes porcelain, and re-infuse them with new and unpredictable associations and perceptions.
In her My Little Hong Kong - Blue and White Series, she was inspired by blue-and-white Kraak porcelain, which the Chinese exported to Europe during the Ming dynasty. Through appropriating varied traditional patterns of the precious blue-and-white Kraak porcelain and features iconic themes of Hong Kong life, she redefines the meaning of the porcelain and the themes of her home city. With a sky-blue tint resembles the hue of the Victoria Harbour, each piece of painting tells a unique story of its own. For her My Little Hong Kong - Pandemic Series she highlights the plight that many around the world are facing during Covid19.
In 2016, Hui was invited by Lane Crawford to create an art window display showcasing her modern interpretation of Chinese traditions, and she was also invited to exhibit at Rosewood Beijing group show by the Office of the Government of HKSAR in Beijing. Alisan Fine Arts included her famous “tissue” artworks in the group
