Irina Pandeva
Born: 1981
Hometown: Bansko
Based in: Bansko, Bulgaria
As an artist, I draw inspiration from my roots and my personal experiences. Growing up in a small town and later living in a big city, I have explored different facets of my identity, and painting has been a constant companion in this journey.
My ancestors were orthodox icon painters, and I am proud to walk in their footsteps. However, my goal is not to replicate their work, but to find my own path using iconography in a way that reflects my unique perspective.
Painting has been a part of my life since I was a child. From drawing on walls with my mom's lipstick to using acrylics on paper and canvas, I have always been curious about the workings of the mind and my own internal experiences. Through my art, I explore different moods and characters, and aim to create mirror images that reflect my own inner world.
The addition of silver and gold leaf in my paintings represents the duality and unity of the sun and the moon. These two celestial bodies have a profound impact on our lives, and I aim to capture their essence in my work.
For me, the process of painting is a private and precious one. However, once a piece is complete, I let it go, hoping that it will find a home where it can be appreciated and cherished. I am always excited when someone connects with my work and takes it on a journey of introspection.
Overall, my art is a reflection of my personal journey, and I hope it resonates with others who are also exploring their own paths in life.
We don't have any works from this artist at the moment.

After I read Ernest Becker's - Denial Of Death I am now convinced that I started making art as a way to cope with my own mortality.
