Jaewon Jung received both BFA and MFA from Seoul National University in Eastern Painting (Oriental Painting) and is currently in a Ph.D. program at Seoul National University. Jung has solo-exhibited at ThisWeekendRoom, Seoul (2020), Shinhan Gallery Gwanghwamun, Seoul (2018) and Seongbuk Young Art Space, Seoul (2018). Jung was an artist in residence at OCI Museum, Seoul (2019) and has awarded the grand prize of ZOOM-IN from Galleries Art Fair (2021), KSD Art Prize (2019), and Gyeomjae Jeongseon Art Prize (2015).
Focusing on plants and its vitality in redevelopment areas in the city, Jaewon Jung depicts the quiet echo of the city. Jung takes a cue from the contemporary urban landscape and examines the nature that is most natural to us.

Describe your creative process.
I go through the process of re-treating the surface of the mulberry paper using glue and varnish. Then the brushstrokes that seem to be left on the canvas, the clear colors like watercolors, and the unique textures of mulberry paper shown in the blank are all revealed on one picture..
