Jahyun Koo was born in 1955 in Daegu, South Korea. He graduated from the College of Arts, Hongik University, and also received a BFA from Kyoto Seika University, College of Fine Arts, Kyoto, and his MFA from College of Fine Arts, Kyu su Sangyo University, Fukuoka.

He has had numerous solo exhibitions throught Korea, and in Tokyo, Nuremburg & Paris. He has also participated in group exhibitions in Changwon, Daegu, Seoul, Busan & more. In 1986, he won the first prize at the Daegu City Grand Print Exhibition, and the fourth prize in the International Grafic Triennale Frechen in the same year. In 1994, he won the Seoul International Print Biennale Sponsor Prize from the Il-Min Museum of Art in Seoul, and in 1998, he won the Sapporo International Print Biennale Sponsor Prize at the Hokkaido Modern Museum of Art in Sapporo. In 2002, he was a prize winner at the 12th Space International Print Biennale Grand Prize, Sungkok Art Museum, Seoul.

His works are in numerous public collections, such as the National Museum of Modern Art, Gwacheon, MBC, Seoul, MBC, Daegu, Hospital of Uijeongbu, Uijeongbu, Seoul Arts Center, Seoul, Ministry of Culture & Tourism Republic of Korea, Seoul and Landesbank Baden-Wurtemberg, Karlsruhe.
