For over 20 years, Jan van der Laan’s art is characterized by tranquil, flowing, organic forms and geometric abstraction. Jan gets inspiration from nature. These can be natural forms and patterns caused by natural elements such as water and wind. And always in a dynamic movement of curved lines and smooth surfaces. Brought together into a harmonious composition.
In his sculptures you recognize his quest for pure form and the desire for the almost unattainable ideal, and that is the creation of beauty in its most pure form.
Each of Jan van der Laan’s sculptures is a unique piece of art. Made with craftsmanship and love out of natural stone or bronze.
Many of Jan van der Laan’s sculptures are enjoyed in private and corporate collections all over the world. Ranging from Europe and North America, to Asia, and the Middle East.
What inspires you?
I live at the coast and walk through the tide lines on the beach every day. Here I find all kinds of extraordinary forms in objects, plants and also patterns of water and wind in the sand. Also when I walk through the dunes and forest nearby I’m surrounded by natural forms. You can see it all being reflected in my sculptures.
