Joey Leung Ka Yin

Born: 1976

Hometown: Hong Kong

Based in: Hong Kong

Possessing a BA and MFA from the Chinese University of Hong Kong, Joey Leung Ka Yin is an artist whose work combines traditional Chinese painting and popular culture. She explores the use of contemporary writing equipment to present the flavour of Chinese art, trying to push the boundaries of different media. Her work can also be seen as an attempt at introspection on the reception and interpretation of traditional images in an age of information abundance. The stories depicted in her artworks express her feelings and notions of fantasy towards modern life. She draws inspiration from her thoughts and feelings about what she sees and hears in her daily life.

Joey is also the co-founder of Cold Ears Factory, a collaborative studio focused on the exploration of new media for artistic expression.

Throughout the course of her career, she has exhibited in over 40 group shows in Hong Kong and overseas. She has held six solo exhibitions at galleries such as Grotto Fine Art and Aquvii TOKYO in Japan.

She has also been featured in a major book about Contemporary Hong Kong artists: “Hong Kong Artists- 20 Portraits” published by Verlag Für Moderne Kunst (2012)
