Juri Akiyama is a painter whose works revolve around the the pivotal theme "2". The theme represents her primary interest into the contradictory concept of repetitive infinity in a numerical form, and encompasses important sub-themes such as ghosts and flatness. What consistent throughout her works is her attention to the centripetal force existent on the flat surface-- which, with its labyrinthine nature, allows an endless lateral journey. Her investigation ranges from the semiotics of the traditional Noh performers to the Support/Surface relationships of paintings.

Born and raised in Japan till 14, the artist spent her life in numerous places such as Hong Kong, London and Providence, USA. She is a recent graduate of the Rhode Island School of Design, as a recipient of Florence Leif Fellowship Award '15.
