Karl Lago
Hometown: Bacoor
Based in: Philippines
Karl Lago (b. 1994) is an interior designer and a graduate of the University of Santo Tomas. He creates assemblage art from the dried crown shafts of palm trees. Each piece of his art is gathered, dried, cut, treated, sanded, and iron-pressed by hand. This process was developed through his diverse practice in designing interior spaces and objects that complete the experience of a well-crafted environment.
His art aims to complete a picture where all pieces are scattered but connected—picked up, put together, and partly painted to create abstract narratives of personal recollection, which portray relatable pivotal moments, stillness, and sometimes descent.
