Artist Name

Mansie Shah

Hometown: Kolkata

Based in: India

After my schooling, I studied law at National Law University, Jodhpur, one of the premier law institutes of the country. After graduation, I worked as a lawyer in two renowned Indian law firms for a few years. In 2013, I turned to clay as a vent for my creativity while working as a lawyer and I haven't looked back since. Initially I started drawing on paper in order to explore surface treatments for my work in clay but eventually, this practice grew independently of my work in clay.

My practice of drawing is line-centric with an intent to strip away the excesses. The intersection at which the intuitive abstract language meets conscious thought or an idea, allow me to slow down, process and distill the ‘everyday’ and perhaps try and understand myself and this world just a little bit better. The objective is to find what remains after you remove the noise, hazy layers and the deluge of data that we are constantly battling.
