Maria Tuzhilkina, a contemporary artist from Tenerife, Spain, was born in 1977. She has been drawing since childhood, graduated from art school, and then from the University of Fine Arts. Maria creates pictorial paintings in the Cubist style, combining geometric precision with abstract shapes.
The artist's portfolio includes professional and group exhibitions, she collaborates with global online galleries, and her paintings are in private collections around the world. In her paintings, she demonstrates the complex relationship between color and shape, preferring to use acrylic, due to its ability to convey realistic color rendition and clear contours. Inspired by the natural beauty of Tenerife, including the ocean and native plants.
In Tenerife, Maria has her own studio, where she conducts master classes in painting for adults and children and, of course, paints paintings in her own geometric cubism style every day.
Maria's works often feature botanical motifs and vibrant tropical landscapes. Maria's technique includes a combination of matte and glossy finishes, which creates depth and play of light in her compositions. She views the world as a giant puzzle of geometric shapes, and her paintings invite viewers to interpret it in their own way.
Adhering to traditional methods, she explores the possibility of integrating her geometric style into a digital environment, using neural networks to expand her portfolio. Maria's creative path is a testament to the transformative potential of Cubism and the enduring appeal of human creativity.
"I am often asked how it is possible to assemble such clear, even segments? Do I use computer graphics? No, all the work, from the sketch to the last stroke, is done manually. My task is to execute every detail perfectly so that the viewer, when looking at the picture, says: “Wow!”
I create works in the style of geometric cubism. My eyes see not only the outer, integral shell, I want to decompose each object into its component parts, give them a geometric shape. The viewer himself puts together the whole picture from individual puzzles. In my works I show the viewer how much color influences the shape of an object and vice versa, how much the form can dictate its conditions.
What inspires you?
I live on the fantastic island of Tenerife, where it is spring all year round. I am inspired by nature, the ocean, beaches, black sand, endemic plants and coniferous forests.
