Artist Name

Marina Lukianova

Born: 1972

Hometown: Saint Petersburg

Based in: Basel ,Switzerland

I was born in Leningrad (Saint Petersburg),Russia, into an artistic family, where my father,a painter and sculptor, became my first teacher and inspiration. I graduated from the Academy of Fine Arts in Saint Petersburg with a diploma in Architecture-Artist. Eventually my passion for travel led me to explore new places and cultures. I embraced various opportunities to sustain myself through my art. I have experience working as a landscape architect, illustrator, teacher of art for children. The past 25 years I've been collaborating with M.Egetmeyer to create OH-cards, healing playing cards, which have achieved International success.
I work mostly with watercolor and acrylics. My art focuses on themes of celebration and joyfull interactions among people, which I find a powerful subject to reflect. I believe, that festivities inject a spring of improvisation and irrational behavior into our rational life. My vibrant colors directly engage with the viewer's emotions and elegant graphics with a good feeling of proportion harmonieses their esthetic sense.
I create Happy Art ,that radiates positive energy, making it very popular.

More About Marina Lukianova

Question IconWhat inspires you?

My greatest resource is retro photography. Interpreting it,I combine colour and monochrome. Colour acts as a bridge between the past and present, a crack, that allows us to peek into something forgotten and slowly fading with time, but very precious in human relationship. Another resource is discovering foreign cultures, with its unic folklore.

Question IconDescribe your creative process.

Usually it's a light, that I notice first,it can make any ordinary scene a masterpiece. It captures me,shocks me,gives me impulse. Sometimes I keep the characters in this scene, sometimes I replace them with others. It's always a fusion, the result. I collect sketches, photos, then mix them up. I'am happy when my heroes speak to me. Sometimes they want to be surrealistic. I believe that every artwork should contain something thought-provoking. It serves as a door to another dimention, offering deeper meaning. I believe, that any art must invite viewers to explore multiple layers of signifficance.

Question IconWhat are 3 words that best describe your work?

Sincere, bold, happy

Question IconWho are some artists that have influenced your work?

Impressionists,Picasso,Nabi group, Boticelli

Question IconWhere do you go for inspiration?

I get my inspiration while travelling, getting in touch with unknown cultures. A big inspiration is also Swiss nature, with its mysterious mountains, witchcraft forests, transporant clear lakes of all shades of blue and green, roaring waterfalls and silent glaciers.
