Michelle Maxine, born 1994, is a practising illustrator, artist and musician from Singapore. She was recently awarded a Bachelor of Arts with first class honours from the Glasgow School of Art (Singapore). Michelle’s works explore themes of memory, loss and human idiosyncrasies that are inspired by organic elements such as botany and biology. Incorporating the likes of dot work, line work, symbolic pattern and experimental mark-making, much of her development centralises on the art of creating and the melodic notion of being transfixed during the creative process. Utilising textural details and composition to translate independent interpretations, Michelle’s works are each assembled with almost-mechanical precision that are reflected with personal writings that are pivotal to her thought flow. She is currently interning at the Singapore Tyler Print Institute.

Artist Statement: "I view the human mind as a perplex network and a world on its own, each an ally and enemy to whom it belongs to. This series explores chaos and camouflage, a common and conflicting process in the human mind. Concepts of my work revolve around the competition between fear and comfort, or repulsion versus attraction. Each of my artworks represent paradoxical traits of the human character."
