Natasha Lyapkina

Hometown: Grodno

Based in: Grodno

Natasha Lyapkina is a contemporary painter whose work is an exploration of process, technique and life.

“I was born and raised in Grodno, Belarus. My interest in art began at the age of 6 when my grandmother took me to art section in local children- pioneer center. And my art journey began. I remember I won in the contest about animals in the Grodno zoo , the prize was a huge encyclopedia of birds and most importantly 5 peacock feathers, to my happiness there was no limit. I also found a deep passion to portraiture people in my early childhood”
After 5 years of studying in the children’s art school I decided to pursue Fine Art and work in oils and in 2003 graduated from Grodno State University art department with distinction and moved to Poland for 5 years. It is there I first began exhibiting and selling my works. Since then, I has had a lot of solo exhibitions in Poland and Belarus and numerous group exhibitions both nationally and internationally.
Then the trip to Asia inspired to create a series of Burmese portraits, an exhibition that took place in Poland and Belarus, along with works of the legendary Myanmar artist M.P.P Yei Myint. After we ( I and my husband) widely travel around Asia.
As for my style,I’m a representative, figurative painter, I prefer portraiture with unusual detail or a strange plot, but not toxic and not depressive and looking for spontaneity, humor, concise, capacious statements in art. I consider my individual style as ironic surrealism with great influence of classical realism and illustration.
I draw my inspiration from painters of the last centuries such as Paul Gauguin, René Magritte, Lucian Freud and from Indonesian sculpture, Japanese graphics. I am also passionate about contemporary artists like Ruslan Vashkevich, Sergey Grinevich, Alexander Nekrashevich from Belarus.
