Patricia Ortiz (b.1991, Mexico) is a captivating artist who fearlessly merges the realms of art and psychology, creating powerful oil paintings that dive deep into the complexities of the human psyche. With a Master's in Art Therapy from Metafora Art Therapy Centre in Barcelona and a Bachelor of Arts in Art Therapy from Emmanuel College in Boston, she brings a unique perspective to her craft. She studied academic drawing and figurative painting in the Edinburgh Atelier of Fine Art in Edinburgh, UK, and apprenticed with award-winning artists Christopher Remmers (USA) and Enrique Saucedo (Mexico).
Drawing inspiration from the legacies from Caravaggio and Rubens to Bouguerau, Evelyn de Morgan and Dorothea Tanning, Patricia's ethereal portraits metaphorically capture the depths of emotions and invite viewers into a world of introspection. Through her mastery of techniques like grisaille and color glazing, she achieves a contemporary realism aesthetic that resonates with profound emotional responses.
Ortiz's work has been exhibited in Mexico and internationally, with solo exhibitions including her recent show Alchemy of Womanhood in London during Frieze week (2024), ETRA Galería in Monterrey, Mexico (2022), and earlier exhibitions including Amadeus Art Gallery Salon Valencia, Monterrey, Mexico (2016) and Gallery 5 at Emmanuel Art Department in Boston (2013). Her participation in group exhibitions spans various prestigious venues such as the Museo de Arte Contemporáneo MARCO in Monterrey, Mexico, MONAT Gallery in Madrid, Spain, The Nomad Salon and The Brick Lane Gallery in London, UK, and the International Contemporary Brussels Art Fair in Brussels, Belgium, within others.
Ortiz has been recognized in several competitions, including being a semi-finalist in the 16th ARC Salon Competition in New Jersey (2022), finalist in the Boynes Emerging Artist Award in Melbourne, Australia (2021), finalist in the 7th Ibero-American Art Competition, Mexico (2021). Her work has been featured in prominent publications such as British Vogue and Fine Art Connoisseur, solidifying her presence in the art world. Ortiz's works are part of private collections in Mexico, Guatemala, the USA, the UK, Canada, Spain, and Saudi Arabia.
Most recently, Ortiz received further recognition when the England Arts Council endorsed her as a Global Talent in Arts and Culture (2024) and is currently living and working in Cambridge, England.
