Song JinSu
Born: 1975

Song JinSu sketches people, objects and spaces around him, as if creating a drawing on paper with a pen, using wires of different thicknesses. This is sculpture not a two-dimensional painting; and a drawing in the space, not on the flat surface. Song, who makes his own lines and strokes by bending, snapping and connecting thick wires in a free fashion, increases the density of the lines with the Oriental traditional ‘one stroke technique (一筆揮之)’ through repeated short straight and curved lines. In this sense, his work involves drawing rather than making, and he handles his art material – thick wires – like lines on canvas and treats the space like paper. Also, the process of his work itself is all about drawing and painting, not that his work converts drawing to three-dimensional. In this regard, his work with the free flowing of thick wires tears down and goes beyond the boundary of painting and sculpture through the concept of ‘drawing,’ expanding the scope of sculpture.
Song JinSu was born in Seoul in 1975. He graduated from Kyungwon University with a bachelor fine arts(B.F.A.) in Environmental sculpture.
