"I am motivated and inspired by my connection to the environment and those around me and how these interactions shape the various layers of awareness and growth within myself and others”.
"When you start working, everybody is in your studio—the past, your friends, enemies, the art world, and above all, your own ideas—all are there. But as you continue painting, they start leaving, one by one, and you are left completely alone. Then, if you're lucky, even you leave." -Philip Guston
What inspires you?
I am motivated and inspired by my connection to the environment and those around me and how these interactions shape the various layers of awareness and growth within myself and others
Describe your creative process.
I work intuitively. A painting will begin with mark making followed by layers of colour and texture. Each subsequent layer being informed by the layers preceding it. It is a continual process of editing and refinement.
Who are some artists that have influenced your work?
Rebecca Crowell, Mary Todd Beam, Lee Krasner, Elaine de Kooning, Kym Barrett, Angela Maritz
What is the most important tool when creating your work?
Detachment, and a 2" flexible metal scraper.
What is the best piece of advice you have been given?
Don't wait for inspiration to arrive, just show up at your studio everyday and get to work.
Where do you go for inspiration?
Inspiration can come in many different ways, but mostly it will come when I'm hard at work.
