“We see the world in colour. This is why B&W seems more surreal and is also more challenging.” A photojournalist for 18 years, all of Swapan Nayak’s projects have been shot on B&W film. His earlier works include documentary series on people in the northeastern states of India, who have been displaced by conflict. Yet, he has also recently shifted from politically charged subjects to focus on a series of abstracts, depicting an unbelievable relation between human and nature. Human presence is merely indirect and negligible here and exist solely as an element of the photograph.
