Born in Yangon in 1972,Tartie studied at Yangon University of Culture. He lives and works in Yangon where he was a founding member of Studio Square, an artist collective, which pioneered in creating and supporting contemporary art in Myanmar.
Tartie’s artworks are inspired by traditional religious mural paintings depicting the life of Buddha. Traced in a calligraphic manner, Pali words contribute to the highly aesthetic value of the work. Although, Buddha images and Pali calligraphy are depicted in a very colorful way alluding to pop art, Tartie’s iconography is truly Burmese and conveys a unique Myanmar flavor.
