Tetsuya Toshima
Born: 1975
Hometown: Japan
Based in: Tokyo
The past is what confronts me, the present is what I move with, and the future is what I
struggle with. Time—past, present and future—is alive within me at all times like an
indivisible Holy Trinity. It is that which also controls the wavering of my emotions. It is
that which I think of as my existence itself.
By detecting the interval of time between the shining of yocto and the silence of yotta, I
am able to come to terms with the present, a point of reference set as zero hours. One
cannot help but think that this space-time, which is a reiterating series consisting of a
beat, a pulse, a tearing, an expansion, multiplication, stillness and an swelling, seems
to be a projection of we human beings.
The space in which we exist is divided into irregular parts, and the very existence of each
part is what I perceive as being what should be our fundamental sense of time.
By giving expression to such a space and those feelings through my work, I reconstruct
and reconfirm time and myself. It is my hope that those who view my work will discover
a new connection with time and themselves, and an even greater brightness and stillness.
We don't have any works from this artist at the moment.
