The mixed-media paintings of Theressa Asis finds solace in abstraction. Asis manipulates paints and pastes to create broad, seemingly tactile landscapes of sweeping emotion — with works rendered mostly in oil or acrylics on canvas.
The artist is interested in what lies beyond the physical confines of reality; seeking to capture the stirring beauty, and sometimes the immense horror, of nature with her imagery; to discover the intangible within the imagined; to translate the breadth and tenor of the human spirit. Asis uses vivid brights, bold hues and stark metallics to swirl abstraction into her oeuvre of arresting landscapes and dynamic portraits.
Asis lends her artistic eye and inventive use of colour to multiple disciplines. Aside from her art, she is also a licensed interior designer in the Philippines and holds an MFA in Architectural Lighting Design from Parsons School of Design in New York. She is currently working on multidisciplinary design projects with art, decor and lighting as a focus.
