About the art
Artist statement
This mixed-media artwork embodies the first stage of Joseph Campbell’s Hero’s Journey—the call to the unknown. It merges folklore, mythology, and bioforms with theatrical elements, creating a scene of transformation and initiation. A young woman, seen from behind, takes her first step into a mystical forest, guided by the branch-like hands of an ancient mythological realm. In the foreground, a horse—an age-old symbol of strength and passage—accompanies her into the depths of the unknown. The foam frame, shaped like organic, biological forms, reinforces the connection between nature and the subconscious.
Influenced by Carl Jung’s theory of archetypes, this piece taps into the primal memory of myths that guide us in moments of transition. The mystical color palette and symbolic composition invite the viewer to embrace change, stepping forward with courage and trust. Like a sacred talisman, this artwork encourages its owner to take that first step into the future, answering their own heroic call.
